Rejuvenation and development of a health destination

Initial Situation

Concept & development for more than 400km2

A major Chinese property and health concern commissioned Generis AG to develop a concept for a tourism and health destination covering more than 400km2 in the northern Chinese province of Hebei. The integration of 3 separate areas, each very different in terms of landscape and topography, and in part with limited access, represented a significant challenge.

Furthermore, the local administration had cultivated considerable expectations of the outcomes of new approaches to achieve sustainable economic development for a previously predominantly rural region with a basic agricultural economy.

Holistic Solution – Joining the Dots

Extensive research provided the foundations for a holistic development concept. Common ground between the 3 very different areas was established and an overall concept of the service offer developed. This comprised health services, concepts for 3-generational living, outdoor and cultural events as well as principal and second-home property projects.

Generis developed the vision and positioning, a tourism activity programme, health offers, the conceptual planning for tourism, property and transport infrastructure, investment planning and approaches to ensure the integration of the resident population into the service sector.

Diversity around One Central Idea

The core of the concept was the revitalisation of existing but very underdeveloped natural hot springs and their development into sizeable health offers and the infrastructure to deliver them. Splendid landscapes and river courses with many small, traditional settlements pursuing basic agriculture provided the platform for a broad range of outdoor and cultural activities, with the requisite infrastructure.

The individual elements were woven into one holistic overall concept comprising movement, activity, nutrition and entertainment. Generis also developed the investment plans and operating model options for the concept.
