Development of a nature experience and weekend destination
Initial Situation
A 180 km2 mountain valley needs a new future vision
A major Chinese property and health concern commissioned Generis AG to develop a concept for a tourism and holiday home destination covering 180km2 in in the northern Chinese Province of Hebei. The 4-hour drivetime from the greater Peking area and difficulty in getting to the region represented a challenge.
The local administration had cultivated considerable expectations of the outcomes of new approaches to achieve sustainable economic development for a previously predominantly rural region with a basic agricultural economy.

Approach
Innovative positioning & synergies
Extensive research provided the foundations for a holistic development concept. To overcome the issue of the distance from Peking, Generis’ concept was to use synergies with an adjoining tourism region whilst establishing unique, innovative positioning.
Generis developed the vision as well as the positioning, architectural concepts, a programme of tourist activity, the health and spa services offer, the conceptual planning for tourism, residential property and transport infrastructure, investment planning and approaches to enable the local population to integrate into the newly created service sector.
Achievements
The High-Level Development Concept
Generis’ concept created an escape from their hectic life and busy environment for residents in the Peking area. Visitors are offered access to healthy farm products and a rural way of life, combined with the comforts of city-life and a range of recreational and health-promoting activities. A unique point of difference in the positioning of the area was an architectural design for the creation of several residential areas.
An innovative concept with business models for local agriculture and the population also featured in the design which was complemented by investment and phased development plans and potential operating models.
