June 20, 2019

As part of its remit to develop the Sino-Swiss Low Carbon Cities (SSLCC) initiative supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation(DEZA), Generis brought together representatives and experts from the Chinese cities Kunming, Chengdu and Guangzhou with several environmental experts from Switzerland and other parts of China at the SSLCC National Conference in Kunming. The event showcased a number of successful exemplar projects, facilitated the exchange of knowledge between delegates and enabled networking with new contacts.

The SSLCC National Conference Kunming took place in the southern Chinese province of Yunnan at the end of May. As part of its remit to develop the Sino-Swiss Low Carbon Cities (SSLCC) programme, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation(DEZA), Generis led work with LEP Consultants AG, the city of Zurich and Chinese partners, most notably the Foreign Affairs Office in Kunming, to ensure the event’s success.

Generis arranged the participation of a number of experts from its networks in China and Switzerland, using staff at its offices in both countries. Additionally, Generis provided its skills in event management during the run-up to the gathering and was also asked to chair the two-day forum, which was undertaken by Marco Jaggi, CEO of Generis-Beijing.

A major focus of the event was dissemination of the outcomes of several projects run via the SSLC programme during the last three years. The municipal authorities and local experts from the three SSLCC cities Kunming, Chengdu und Guangzhou had worked very closely with their partners in Switzerland and the Conference was the first major event to enable the 3 SSLC cities to share their experiences with each other and with experts in this field. The success of the SSLCC National Conference Kunming event has already been demonstrated, with the city of Kunming expressing interest in developing a building constructed in Chengdu using Swiss Green Building technology. The Conference was covered by several newspapers and tv channels which conducted a number of interviews with SSLC representatives, including Generis CEO Marco Rhyner, as well as with experts from Switzerland and China.
