Energy-efficient Mobility Concept receives Award
April 15, 2019
The Schaffhausen-based Competence Centre for Mobility, Swiss Transit Lab, recently received a prestigious award for an innovative mobility concept. As part of its role in leading the regional and economic development of Schaffhausen, specialist consultancy Generis is one of the founders of mobility lab, situated above the Rhine Falls, and was the creative force behind the award-winning idea.
The mission of Swiss Transit Labs (STL), located in Neuhausen just above the Rhine Falls, is to test and put into practice innovative and smart technologies and solutions for intelligent mobility. As part of its role in leading the regional and economic development of Schaffhausen, specialist consultancy Generis AG is one of the founding members of STL.
Generis has been working on the development, commissioning and operation of a driverless bus on Route 12 within the city’s public transport network, a global first, and has taken the lead on stakeholder management, publicity, and development of the project and new concepts for the service.
STL recently applied for the Smart City Innovation Award, which was presented by EnergieSchweiz in April at the SmartSuisse Exhibition in Basel. Generis had developed the concept of an intermodal mobility experience, which used smart technologies and integrated a passenger lift into the autonomous bus project. The jury recognized the value of the STL proposition and gave it a Smart City Innovation Award. Key aspects which won over the judges for STL included the involvement of a range of different stakeholders, such as the lift manufacturers and STL personnel, the drive for energy-efficiency at the core of the project, and the highly innovative nature of the development which unites two modes of transport.
