Initial Situation

First Swiss Wind Farm in a Forest

As the first wind farm in Switzerland to be located in a forest, the «Chroobach Wind Energy» project is set to be an exemplar for the rest of the country.

Generis AG has been commissioned by local energy companies to lead the project, overseeing the individual phases in the planning process, liaising with the local government departments and taking care of stakeholder management. Four wind turbines are envisaged for Chroobach Hill, near Stein am Rhein.

Public relations work for Wind Energy

All parties involved in the project are concerned to ensure the needs of and feedback from the local residents, local authorities, local associations and experts are taken into account and addressed. To meet this requirement, a comprehensive programme of briefing and consultation was launched at the start of 2016.

Numerous meetings were held to inform and involve attendees around the phases of the project plan and wider issues relating to wind energy. As the project unfolded, Generis AG also took charge of public relations and preparations for the environmental impact assessment.

Achievements

Focussed approach in a tough environment

The project management undertaken by Generis AG ensured the comprehensive project planning as well as the process of steering the proposal though its touchpoints with the local administration ran efficiently and retained focus throughout. In spite of the at times tough public discussions with some residents and interest groups, the changes to the cantonal plans regarding wind energy were approved at both cantonal and national levels.

The Chroobach project group now moves forward into the next phase of its work at community level.
