December 13, 2019
A five-member delegation from Gaochun district in Nanjing visited Switzerland from December 9 to 11, 2019. Led by Generis AG the delegation visited various Swiss companies and institutions. Highlights of the study trip were a visit to the Innovation Park Basel and the signing of a letter of intent with Swiss Materials in Schaffhausen.
The delegation under the leadership of Ms. Zhang Chaoxia, member of the Standing Committee of the Nanjing Gaochun District Committee, began the trip in Schaffhausen, where the work of the Nanjing Overseas Collaborative Innovation Center has been coordinated by Generis since the beginning of the year. Generis partner and project manager Patrik Li gave the members of the delegation an overview of the activities of the center.
Afterwards, Mrs. Birgitt Eckhart from ITS Schaffhausen gave an insight into the business of Swiss Materials, a national contact point for material questions. Subsequently, a letter of intent was signed between Gaochun and SwissMaterials.
The delegation also visited several high-tech start-ups and innovative companies that develop and offer products and services in the fields of life science and environmental technology. For example, the company Ecocell in Uttwil (TG), whose founder Fredy Iseli has developed a novel building material based on cost-effective high-tech composite materials, which is fundamentally changing conventional building technology. Projects such as these are meeting with increasing interest in the Chinese market, and the members of the delegation showed great interest.
During the three-day trip, the delegation visited companies in four cantons and also visited the Biolab of the Park Basel, which is being set up as part of Switzerland Innovation. In Basel, the delegation also visited Piqur Therapeutics, a company working on a next generation of applications for the treatment of cancer and genetic diseases.
