Generis presents Sino-Swiss-Low-Carbon-Cities project at the first World Eco-Design Conference in Guangzhou, China

January 07, 2019

Attracting 1,000 delegates from more than 30 countries was compelling evidence of the major success achieved by the first World Eco-Design Conference 2018 in Guangzhou in the Chinese province of Guangdong. Generis AG was invited due to its standing as an expert in regional development and asked to present the Sino-Swiss Low Carbon Cities project to Conference attendees.

Generis AG has been working on regional development projects for Chinese clients for ten years. The company has been leading the Sino-Swiss Low Carbon Cities project (SSLCC) on behalf of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (DEZA) since 2016. Guangzhou is one of the partner cities which are implementing substantive projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of the SSLCC programme. In December 2018, the city of Guangzhou joined forces with the China Industrial Design Association to organise the first World Eco-Design Conference (WEDC) as a means of underpinning the development of eco-industrialisation. WEDC aims to strengthen the integration of design, ecology and society globally in order to support green industry and the achievement of Agenda 2030 goals for sustainable development.

Marco Jaggi, CEO at Generis Beijing, was invited to share his experiences as a regional development expert with the international audience attending the WEDC. Jaggi set out very convincingly the considerable importance of sustainable, regional development for the achievement of economic and environmental targets. The SSLCC project was an exemplar of this approach, he outlined.

The Conference was attended by over 1,000 delegates from more than 30 countries and included representatives of government, international organisations, universities and professional bodies within the design sector and private sector visitors. A number of senior Chinese officials attended, including the Chief Engineer at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Feng Zhang, the Deputy Governor of Guangdong Province, Liangxian Chen, and the Head of the Municipal Authorities in Guangzhou, Guohui Wen. Former Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Michael Rudd, and ex-Prime Minister of Greece, George Papandreou, were among the speakers at the Conference.
