Schaffhausen leads the future

Project

In 2016, autonomous driving was still just a vision, and electromobility just a trend. But the movers and shakers of Schaffhausen were already one step ahead. Industry and public transportation authorities wanted to test, design, and learn how to bring the vehicles of the future to the streets of the present.

Together with the cantonal Economic Development Department (generis), stakeholders founded the Swiss Transit Lab (STL) – a public-private partnership that pools knowledge and accelerates projects in the field of smart mobility. Their first, pioneering project was STL Line 12, the first self-driving bus in Neuhausen am Rheinfall. Other smart mobility projects followed, including STL Line 13, the first dualmode bus operating in Switzerland.

For the Swiss Transit Lab, mobility doesn’t end at the bus stop. Smart infrastructure, networked transport systems, operational tasks and approval processes – all these and more fall under the STL umbrella. Generis has been the driving force behind innovation, support, and implementation.
